Huawei to Support for Development of Indoor Coverage in Myanmar
AUTHOR: EI THANDAR TUN China’s tech giant Huawei and the Myanmar Engineering Council have team up for development of the information and communication technology (ICT) sector in Myanmar by signing a two-year agreement on April 22. Under the agreement, Huawei will provide assistance for the development of indoor cellular coverage, fiber optic to home/business (FTTX) standards, and technical skills of new generations of engineers in Myanmar.

Govt to Sign Investment Agreement with Hong Kong Company
AUTHOR: TIN MG OO Yangon Regional Government will sign an investment agreement with a Hong Kong based company for future investment in Htan Dabin industrial zone. The signing will take place on May 10th. The investment is worth about $600 million and is expected to create 150,000 jobs for local people, according to Naw Pan Thinzarmyo, Yangon Regional Minister for Karen Ethnic Affairs.

Telecom Operators Allowed to Sell Only 2 SIM Cards Per ID Card
AUTHOR: SWE LEI MON Telecom operators are not allowed to sell more than two SIM cards to an individual starting from April 1. The purpose of the change is to protect the privacy of users, according to the Department of Post and Telecommunications under Ministry of Transport and Communications. The Ministry has ordered all operators not to sell more than two SIM cards per identity card, and the Ministry will ban all other sim cards from that telecom from being registered under a single ID card. The reason is twofold.

Yangon Real Estate Only Seeing Demand for Rentals

MDA Requests Government to Finalize Apartment Bill
AUTHOR: HMONE LAY Myanmar Developer Association (MDA) has made a request for government to prepare the Apartment Bill as soon as possible in order to protect apartment buyers. The law will allow for two things. First it enables apartment owners to legally register, sell or sub-lease their apartments in accordance with law, and secondly, the government will be able to legally collect tax on the sale of the apartment.
